THE FIRST SUMMER CAMP MIRRORABLE : BETWEEN RESEARCH, SPORT AND CONTINUOUS LEARNING

In Milan, from 20 to 29 August, a unique experiment aimed at children from all over Italy diagnosed with hemiplegia

Milan, 6 June 2018 – will be held in Milan, from 20 to 29 August, the first Summer Camp Mirrorable: 10 days of activity for children from different regions of Italy, aged 5 to 13 years and diagnosed with unilateral infantile cerebral palsy/hemiplegia, who will be able to practise new bimanual sports, such as golf, tennis, volleyball, basketball or Dance, thanks to the imitative learning with your tutor and with the playmates. For them will be pure fun, for the family a further benefit given by the use of the summer break in activities aimed, with a strong attention also to the psycho-social wellbeing of young patients.

The Summer Camp Mirrorablewill take place at Playmore! (In Via Della Moskva 26, right in the centre of Milan) and is an opportunity offered for free by FightTheStroke to 16 children (with an impact on more than 100 adults among therapists, instructors, researchers, caregivers) who together will carry out an intensive training of motor empowerment, cognitive enhancement and sport start-up. The initiative was made possible thanks to the renewed support of the Vodafone Foundation through the invitation OSO every Sport beyond.

A unique experiment

TheSummer Camp Mirrorable It takes inspiration from other intensive rehabilitation models frequented and studied abroad, in order to be able to extend the research protocol not only to the activities of motor potentiation but also of cognitive enhancement and start to the sport of Different paraolympic disciplines. An experiment unique in the world and challenger.

Francesca Fedeli And Roberto D'Angelo, founders of FightTheStrokeand creators of the remote rehabilitation platform Mirrorable ,So they tell the idea behind this project: 'We asked ourselves: what would happen if instead of exercising the children through a screen we were to meet them live? What would happen if the learning process for children with cerebral lesions at birth was continuous, personalized, intensive but environmentally friendly, when they needed it most? And if growing their motor rehabilitation could pass from the clinic to the practice of new sports adapted to their needs? '

From these questions was born the idea of the Camp: Translating the results of the tele-rehabilitation platform Mirrorable To real life, building an ecosystem that combines the benefits of technology with the benefits of being together and sporting activity.

'After our direct experience in New York (Columbia University) and Madrid (Universidad de villaviciosa de Odon), we studied extensively all the intensive camp models for children diagnosed with infantile cerebral palsy and realized that The offer is seldom individualized and often unbalanced or towards ' recreational therapy ' or towards the willingness to ' fix ' something broken. In None of the camp surveyed is proposed the start to practice sports, and too often Italian families have to compromise in the offer of summer programs for individuals with different fragility, forced to move abroad and pay out of pocket Or to choose admissions in the hospital to reach the intensificity of treatment necessary to modify postures and behaviours. '

During the Summer Camp, an experimental research study will also be put in place and new evaluative approaches will be tested, thanks to the use of advanced technological knowledge and devices (e.g. 3d cinematic recording) and partnerships Established with different study centers: The research design is in fact the result of an alliance that sees the collaboration of researchers from the University of Neuroscience of Parma with the National Center of Specialized Teachers (Cnis), directed by Prof. Daniela Lucangeli, trainees selected in collaboration with the degree course in Motor Sciences of the Catholic University of Milan, up to the main sports associations and coordinators experienced in physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

' We are ready to be inspired by the model Wilma Rudolph, Olympic champion who until 9 years has suffered because of a disabling illness but who has been able to exploit the challenges proposed by life to rise and Excel, thanks to Sport ', conclude Francesca Fedeli and Roberto D'Angelo.

FightTheStroke
Francesca Fedeli And Roberto D'Angelo are the co-founders of FightTheStroke . org, a movement that supports since 2011 the cause of the young survivors of the stroke, as their small Mario . Early diagnosis of perinatal stroke and new rehabilitative techniques based on the concept of Mirror Neurons And the application of technology to medicine (Www. Mirrorable . org), represent only some of the battles carried out by the association, which continues to make its history known through world-wide resonance events such as the TED Global (2013) and the World Business Forum (2015). In October 2013, the association joined the Board of Directors of the international Alliance for Pediatric Stroke, and was selected as a finalist for numerous local and international awards, including the Eisenhower Fellowship (USA, 2014). Authors of the book ' Fight and Smile, a Story of Love and Science ' published in Italy by Sperling & Kupfer, were chosen as the first Italian fellows of the world's largest network of social entrepreneurs Ashoka (2015) and the global Good Fund Fellowship. FightTheStroke is tedmed ambassador for Live events in Italy from 2014. In 2014 he was also the promoter of the first hackathon in medicine in Italy and in 2017 he celebrated the birth of the first Stroke Center for the newborn and the child together with the Gaslini Hospital of Genoa. Www. Mirrorable
Mirrorable™ is an interactive platform that allows a unique model of home rehabilitative therapy, specially designed to meet the needs of children who have undergone brain damage at a very early stage of their life, with impacts on Motor level. The scientific principle on which it is based is the ability to stimulate the plasticity of the motor system by activating the mechanism of Mirror Neurons , simply by watching video stories and exercising with other children with similar needs. Mirrorable It enables for the first time a process of data collection and single register of the different cases, thus transforming itself into a tool able to process data and draw statistical evidence useful to study the different cerebral lesions and develop new Rehabilitation strategies.

The availability of Mirrorable ' In the Cloud ' allows the geographic diffusion with broad spectrum, lowering the costs of distribution, the time expenditure for the journeys, the crowding of the rehabilitation structures active in the territory. It does not exclude, however, the role of the health care professional, but rather enhances it, giving it a set of data useful to measure and establish incremental objectives. Www. Mirrorable . org
